I remember 25 years ago sitting in front of the TV and even though I was just a teenager I knew I was watching history being made. I sit here now a 40 year old mother of two and I know I am watching history being made again.............







We are being given an opportunity to take the greatest and most devastating natural disaster the world has ever witnessed and create the greatest and most extraordinary positive change in the world. I believe with all my heart and soul that each and every single one of us must take this opportunity and create positive change in our lives.


And even though we all can't:
 

• start an organization
• head a charity
• sing a song go to Haiti and help
• donate money

We all can:

• volunteer at an organization in our community
• donate clothes, knick-knacks, food, books or our time to a charity in our community
• donate money by downloading music
• go to our neighbors and help

But the most powerful positive change we can make in the world is to become more positive ourselves. To become more open and aware of those around us. To allow ourselves to be nicer and more caring to every person who crosses our path. A simple smile or saying hello as we pass each other on the street or waiting in line at a store. Everybody talks about the positive effect our being nicer can have on someone else and that is very true. But what isn't talked about enough is just how enormous and powerfully positive the effect it has in ourselves.

I believe everything happens for a reason and some of the greatest positive change in the world has come from the darkest times. This song was created 25 years ago for a reason:

We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day so let's start giving.............

Now it was chosen for a another distinct reason. The world has reached a point in the journey and before it there are two paths and only one can be chosen:

There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we make a better day for you and me..........

We can no longer act as though we are just from this country or that country, helping others from this place or that place, yet focusing on trying to protect what we consider to be our own first. We may have been born on different sections of land claimed by different groups of people, but there are no invisible force-fields or barriers that can protect only that land each group considers theirs. So we must come together if only for selfish reasons, and help the other so we can protect ourselves.
