"Another dustup in the White House's Office of Protocol? The Dalai Lama was ushered out a White House side door along a route strewn with garbage bags"When you click on the photo you are taken to a page titled: "Dalai Lama Trots Past White House Trash".
Which contains 13 photographs of His Holiness The Dalai Lama walking past some bags of trash that were located outside the door from room where he was. The article linked to that was WH Makes Dalai Lama Leave Through Trash Door which had 73 comments (and growing), 90% of them expressing outrage over the fact that His Holiness walked passed trash. That was the entire comment. Nothing about the meeting or anything else.
Here is other coverage, which is only available after performing a search on the FoxNews site, along with the amount of comments each one received. First was Obama Walks Tightrope With Dalai Lama Meeting 25 comments. Second was Breaking: Dalai Lama Meets with President Obama 8 comments. There two others received 4 and 30 comments each. I wanted to post the ones from the day the news happened, because the point of the Internet and news websites is to provide up to the minute news.
Now based on the fact that usually items listed on the home page of a website are viewed the most along with the fact that report received the largest amount of comments posted to any other, I am willing to bet that more people read that one then any other. It is absolutely pathetic to have something as warped and senseless as the Dalai Lama walking past trash the focus of ANY article about His Holiness The Dalai Lama meeting with ANYONE, let alone the President of the United States. The only thing more pathetic is that FoxNews chose that to be the focus for their TV coverage all day today as well.
I always try to find the positive in every situation and this was no exception. FoxNews did post a wonderful video blog story by Anne Marie Riha that received 4 comments below:
I want to comment on the trash just as I did on the site. Washington DC along which much of the northeast is still recovering from a blizzard and digging out of the snow, which was also reported by FoxNews. The farther south you get the less equipment is available to remove the snow, but regardless most places use the trash trucks for the snow plows and that means the trash pick-up stops until there done. There is trash everywhere all along the northeast, especially cities with a lot of areas to plow, small narrow streets, and nowhere to put the snow. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS DURING A BLIZZARD.
We are never going to create positive change of any kind if we allow this to go on and not stand up and demand change. The news media has an obligation to the public to report the news to us in a fair and unbiased way. The journalist job is supposed to be the eyes and ears for the public, a representative of us. They are supposed to witness, document the facts and bring the situation to the public. Allowing us to see and hear what happens so we can form our own opinion on the situation.
What did the majority of those who read these reports and saw these pictures of His Holiness The Dalai Lama learn about the meeting? The news media is getting farther and farther away from that with every passing story and we have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't stand up now and demand change.
Peace, Light and Take Care,
