The only real mention of Haiti's government has been of a negative, condescending nature and this has to stop. Regardless of the governments history, it is the government of Haiti and who their citizens know best.
To see the images of the single truck coming to give food and the confusion that follows and the truck speeding off is extremely upsetting.
How could there not have been a representative of Haiti who spoke their language and with whom they would be able to understand, trust and listen to with the truck? And how could there have been ONLY ONE TRUCK?
The capital has been almost completely destroyed, from the Presidential Palace, a huge symbol of their freedom, to individual homes. The tremendous loss of life from every level of their society, the unimaginable injuries they have sustained and the horrific conditions which they have been living in for the last 72 hours and will be for the foreseeable future. Yet from their President to the poorest citizen, they have shown courage, honor, peace, caring, compassion, love, understanding and respect not just to each other, but to every single foreigner in their country.
Haiti has experienced more then Americans can even begin to imagine and will probably never have to live through. They are waiting for food, water, and basic medical supplies 72 hours later, while many of our citizens (and many, many other countries) were evacuated and treated. Their courage has become an inspiration to myself and I imagine many, many people all over the world.
My heart goes out to everyone and I continue to send my love and prayers to everyone who has suffered and continues to suffer because of this disaster. And I am also praying that their truly inspiring example will become one of the important lessons we take from this.
Peace, Light and Take Care,
