Thoughts for Today

He who is different from me does not impoverish me -- he enriches me. Our unity is constituted in something higher then ourselves -- in Man....For no man seeks to hear his own echo, or to find his refection in the glass.
~Flight to Arras, by Antoine de Saint-Exupery from A Guide for Grown-ups

It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.
~Mahatma Gandhi

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
~Leo Tolstoy

Dreams come true; without that possibility, nature would not incite us to have them.
~John Updike

When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always.
~Mahatma Gandhi

He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.
~Lao Tzu

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.
~Mahatma Gandhi

Do not speak harshly to anybody; those who are spoken to will answer thee in the same way. Angry speech is painful; blows for blows will touch thee.
~#133 from the Dhammapada, the teachings of the Buddha

Have a wonderful day!

An Egyptian Love Poem

I found this poem a few weeks ago and I wanted to share it with everyone. Written around 1500 BC, it's an Egyptian poem about love. All human beings have the same wants and needs and (in my opinion at least) LOVE is a primary one. I am always delighted when I find another illustration that shows how similar the human spirit is regardless of time, place, belief, philosophy, culture, and so on. This poem is a perfect example because even though it is over 3500 years old, it could have easily been written today. I hope you enjoy!

Thoughts for Today......LOVE

Everyone from Lao Tzu, to Plato, to Longfellow wrote about LOVE. The strength of the emotion, depth of it's passion and it's ability to transform are just a few examples of the variety of quotes that follow. The common thread sown throughout every culture and time is the knowledge that LOVE is one of the most fundamental things all living creatures need to thrive.
I hope you enjoy the different quotes as well as a couple of pictures of flowers from my "natural light series" (Please contact me with any questions about the pictures). If you have a favorite quote please share it by posting it in the comment section!

Father's Day

Since many people are celebrating Father's Day, I chose to focus on how truly important the relationships with our parents, guardians, grandparents and mentors in our lives. I wanted to share something that highlights specifically the knowledge and wisdom fathers pass down to their children. After looking through my collection of works written by my favorite authors, I think I found a perfect essay to share and I hope you enjoy it.
